You've Always Been Mine
by Jenika Snow
PAIGE
When Erik left town, I thought my world had ended. Even at the tender age of ten, I knew how hard my life would be without him. And as I grow older, as the letters between us became sparse to nonexistent, I can’t help but feel like a wall has been built around my heart.
There is only one boy for me, and I know I’ll never see him again.
ERIK
She was my best friend, the only person I knew I couldn’t live without.
But we had to leave each other.
Time went on, we drifted apart, and it always felt like I’d left a piece of myself back with her. But I’m a man now, a wounded Marine, and fate brings me back to the one girl who completes me.
Paige has always been mine, and now it’s time to prove that to her.
Warning: Tighten that seat belt because you’re about to go on an over-the-top, totally unbelievable ride. Featuring a possessive and devoted hero who saved himself for that one girl, it’ll still have that sugary-sweet aftertaste you crave. Don’t forget that cold glass of water, because you’ll need it for the heat this book—and Erik—is packing.

I needed ‘Y’ and this was only 104 pages. After the insanity of the Hades series, I was excited for something quick and hopefully straightforward. I found this one when I was looking for my ‘Wounded Warrior’ challenge last month and there’s a ‘Veteran’ square on my BINGO card. So all kinds of things brought this one to the table. I’m not generally a second chance romance girl, but this one was a childhood best friends story, so I thought that was a neat twist. Also, the blurb mentions that he’s saved himself for her, and the prospect of a virgin Hero is always intriguing. They’re like unicorns: rare. Lol.
I’m not going to leave a long review on this one.
I didn’t like this. I’ve read many novellas that worked, this one didn’t. There was nothing enjoyable about it. They saved themselves for each other, but that wasn’t enjoyable by the time it happened. Firstly, why didn’t they find each other before they were 22? I realize that he went to the military, but I guess I would’ve been trying to find my best friend before that if I was saving myself for them, after all. There was just absolutely nothing compelling to this book for me. There was no substance. I didn’t like the characters. The plot was maybe there, but filled in awfully.
Also, I paid $3 for this book. That was dumb on my part.
-SPOILERS-
The sex scene where they finally lose their virginities together pissed me off. The male main character cannot be saying in his head that he knows he's going to hurt her and to take it slow and all these caring things, then just shove his dick in. That's not care. This sex scene irritated me from the beginning to the end.
