I chose this one because it was short and it was by a “Y” author and that’s all I needed to complete my A-Z Author challenge! Whoop! I enjoy forced marriages most of the time and I like mafia, so I was hoping this would be enjoyable. And it was. Enough. It was enjoyable enough.
Ok, now I’ve read another book since this and I suppose it’s not a great thing that I’m already having trouble remembering any details about this one. Shit.
So MMC is an Italian mafia prince…FMC is the daughter of the Irish mafia kingpin, but she had moved out/ran away. She lives in her car and works two jobs. The MMC’s dad tells him that he’s going to marry her- to go and retrieve her. He does. They get married. Uhhhh, I want to say feelings develop but geez.
The MMC is ok. He’s never mean to the FMC and for that, I appreciate, but some of his thoughts and some things that he says are just, infuriating. The FMC is fine. She’s a damaged girl, as the title would imply, but overall, she’s kind and open. The story, in general, is fine. The dads are the villains in this book.

The MMC’s dad is appalling in this story. He may have loved his wife while she was alive, but he doesn’t want that for his son. He wants the MMC to see her as a tool to be used and wielded, not protected. He tells the MMC that she’ll make him weak. The MMC doesn’t argue any of these things!! The dad makes the MMC loan the FMC out to a different mafia boss. WTF! She manages to not get raped and such, but HE STILL SENDS HER. I’m MAD about it. I’M MAD ABOUT IT, Y’ALL!
I also hate the fact that by the end of the book, the MMC still can’t say he loves her. He’s not capable and that is just not a romance story.
I did love that he never forced her to have sex with him. He gave her space, he gave her time, he drove her insane with it even. Yeah, he threatened to a couple times, but what mafia book doesn’t do that?
I also loved that he allowed her to keep her pet because why the fuck wouldn’t he? Lol. It didn’t even seem to cross his mind to not let her. When his dad wanted the bird dead, I got scared because I wouldn’t have came back from that, but nope…he helped save the little guy. Lot of points earned there…with me and FMC.
