Wild Blood (Cyborg Shifters #1)

by Naomi Lucas

Dommik was a monster, a Monster Hunter, and an alpha. Part of an elite group that dealt with the horrors of the universe. At least that was what everyone at the spaceport was whispering as he walked by. A Cyborg, a hunter, a beast with eyes as dark as the pits of Hell and the stride of a predator.

Katalina was a nobody who was intimate with death. It clung to her like a shroud, It followed her like the plague, and infected her like a parasite. When she overheard that the Monster Hunter needed an assistant, she took the job. And when the Cyborg’s eyes caught hers, she knew getting closer to death might just bring her back to life.

The Cyborg didn’t scare her.

So she followed him and left fate up to chance.

I needed a Science Fantasy book, which my husband informed me think Star Wars not Star Trek. Yeah. Alright. So my first thought was cyborgs, but that’s a bit more sci-fi, so then it became cyborg shifters…

This book was every bit as weird as I thought it would be. Geez.

So Kat has lost her grandmother and leaves Earth to find some adventure. At the space port, she sees Dommik and she’s intrigued. Due to some work complications, he needs an assistant on his future jobs of monster/plant/creature collection, so Kat forces her way into that being her. They avoid each other as much as they can in the small space of the spacecraft, but ultimately get it on. Dangerous missions make them confront their feelings a bit more. Ta-da. That’s as spoiler free as I can get here.

Things to note: this is a fucked up version of 3rd person pov. There were lines of 1st. It’s wonky. The editing on this book was lackluster. Lol. There are several times when there were glaring typos. Not misspellings, so you can’t blame spell check for not catching it. But still. Cyborg books always feel weird. Lol. Maybe befcause they’re always more robot than person…but want to fuck like a man. It’s a weird path they always take, but whatever you like.

The characters in this book are not fully developed. I didn’t love them. I didn’t hate them. I didn’t understand the connection the author was trying to create, but whatever. He loved to shove Kat away then later just fuck her anyway and that’s never been my thing.

-SPOILERS-

So, apparently going into Trentian territory is dangerous for unmated women, so Dommik just knocks her up. I guess cyborgs just make that decision and it’s not a “maybe you’ll get pregnant” kind of situation. The nanocells just attach to the eggs and start helping to create a baby. That was weird and I didn’t like it. Then again, I’ve read way too many breeding books lately and I’m learning that that particular kink is NOT for me. This one being undiscussed was off putting.

I wasn’t expecting him to have limbs that split to ultimately give him 4 arms and 4 legs. I suspected there was a spider aspect to it because of the cover, but I was not prepared for what I got, lol.

I’m pissed that the author didn’t take the opportunity for rope play with as much webbing and rope was discussed. GIANT missed chance there. I was really hoping for some kinky fuckery in the web.

Trope Challenge:

Cyborgs

He took her lips with a desperation he didn’t know was inside him, a need for her exotic, unknowable taste in his mouth, simmering and wild. She parted her velvet soft mouth under his and gave him access to take her as burning, chaotic desire lit up between them. A wildfire, explosive and uncontrollable. Dommik needed her like this, always like this, and only ever for him.
