Under the Lights
by Tia Louise

Heroes don't last long around here...
Fall in love with the sexiest girl in New Orleans?
Check.
Prepare to die for her?
Double-check.
Larissa is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.
She's the rising star of the Pussycat Angels, the hottest burlesque show in the French Quarter.
I'll never forget the first time I saw her.
The curve of her breast outlined by sparkling rhinestones.
Slim hips wrapped in black fishnets.
Long, dark hair...
She's the Dark Angelwho stole my heart.
Her body is intoxicating, our love overwhelming.
Cat eyes and blood red lips.
Sizzling fingers on white-hot skin.
I couldn't keep my hands off her...
But her fame had a dark side,
A sinister shadow lurking under the lights.
I would do anything to save her...
He would do anything to see me dead.

I saw the second book of this duet on TikTok and something about it made me put it on my TBR. Obviously, it being the second half of a duet, I had to read this one first. It was also helpful that it started with a “U” and I needed that letter still on my A-Z Challenge
This review is going to be quick.
I didn’t like this book. I didn’t like this book to the degree that I refused to read the epilogue even and I won’t be finishing the story.
My first glaring issue: there was not a single trigger warning obviously placed anywhere. Not on Goodreads. Not on Amazon. Not on that Tiktok. Obviously, I should’ve read the reviews or something, but I often don’t read those. This is the first time that I was caught 100% off-guard as a child was raped, and moments later the main character. She was later sexually assaulted and honestly, fuck this book. I’m so furious that I’m having a terrible time not blasting this everywhere.
Second, I’m so sick of weak female characters. I’m sick of people being a victim of their circumstances. After a certain point, take control of your life and fucking do something about it.
I didn’t like this story. I didn’t like the characters. I’m so mad at the author that if I met her, I’d probably punch her in the nose for that violation of my person by not warning me about a child getting raped.
I hope male main character moves on. I hope the female main character dies. I hope the burlesque house blows up with EVERYONE inside. I hope that that poor child becomes strong and does something for herself with her life and never lets anyone take away her power and autonomy again.
When I looked after, so many people loved this book. I wish I could've been one of them.
