The Hook-Up Equation
by Roxie Noir
Teach me everything.
My whole life, I’ve been a good girl. I follow rules like nobody’s business. I obey guidelines like I was born to it. Show me a line, and I’ll toe it.
I’m even a twenty-two-year-old virgin. Good is my middle name.
And then, I break one tiny little rule. Miniscule. Inconsequential.
Next thing I know, I’m trapped with an incredibly handsome stranger. He’s got eyes like cut emeralds, biceps that makes my head spin, and a smile that has me rethinking all my life choices.
We escape a bar bathroom together. We go on an impromptu date. We share the hottest kiss I’ve ever had, one that leaves me panting for more. We promise to see each other again.
Turns out, we see each other the next morning.
In my calculus class.
Which he’s teaching.
My handsome, sexy date is Professor Loveless, and we’ll be seeing each other plenty. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday all semester.
There’s no choice but to call it off. We both have too much at stake: I could lose my scholarship, and he could lose his entire career.
But I can’t call off the way I feel.
I can’t call off the way he looks when he rolls up his sleeves and explains imaginary numbers.
I can’t call off the heated glances, or the way our hands touch when I hand in my homework, or the memory of his body pressing against mine that night.
I’m a virgin.
He’s my professor.
And if we give in, it could cost us both everything.
But I’m so tired of being a good girl.

After reading Break the Rules with my friend, I decided that I couldn’t move on until I’d read Caleb’s story with her too. Afterall, Caleb’s story is delicious and I knew he was going to be her favorite. Caleb is a nerdier version of Levi…and I’m sure we all remember how much I love Levi. I’ve probably read this book at least 10 times since I originally discovered it.
Caleb’s story is a ‘Student/Professor’ trope (college) because he is a math nerd. Let me just throw out there that I’m terrible at math, but it would still be my favorite subject if Caleb was the one teaching it to me.
We’ve met and gotten to know Caleb in all the other brother’s stories. He’s minimalistic, practical, incredibly intelligent… In this one, we also get to experience him full of passion, unraveling, and so damn patient and kind that he steals your heart. (He also shares my love of lists.)
Thalia is a bit more ‘all over the place’ than the other girls that we’ve met. She’s caught in a situation that she doesn’t exactly know how to handle, with a guy that is having trouble handling it, and it’s a bit messier. Still, she’s also hilarious and adventurous.
From the reader’s perspective, there are a lot of clear answers that these two couldn’t find and for some reason I got more mad about it than in the other stories. I find the interactions with the rest of the brothers more enjoyable in this one than any of the others - which is saying something.
Once again, if you need something that is going to let you fall for a good guy or revel in intelligent humor - read this book.
Book #4 in the Loveless Brothers series | 411 Pages | Trope Challenge: Student/Teacher |

"I'm trying to keep you out of trouble, you know," she murmurs, teasing.
"And I'm trying desperately to get into it," I say, one eyebrow raised. Then I lean in, kiss her slowly, deeply. When I pull away, my lips still brushing hers, I murmur, "Tell me you're not wet thinking about getting bent over my desk and fucked."
