The Hitman

by Ellie Isaacson

She was the daughter of my worst enemy.

I was the hitman hired to take her out.

When the contract hit my phone, I thought it was fate. The broken, frightened girl who got away. The one who lied about who she was and disappeared without a trace.

Now I had a second chance. There was no doubt I’d do everything to keep her safe, both from my family and the man who wanted her life.

As secrets were revealed, lives were put at risk. But life had taught me there was no running from death.

It might have been fate that brought us together, but it was her past that would tear us apart.

I needed an author with a last name beginning with “I”. Harder than I thought, but this one popped up and I’d been enjoying mafia types more often recently. I had so many more thoughts than these when I read it, but I can't think straight at this point.

FMC is healing from some VERY traumatic events with a man. MMC is a mercenary. They meet on a plane and he is pulled to her. Then he gets the order to kill her because she’s not who he thought she was. Unfortunately, he’s already too far down that rabbit hole and then he has to figure out how to keep anyone else from killing her-while his sister hates her guts.

This FMC has every reason to be batty. Seriously.

This MMC is a complete and total cinnamon roll.

I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did and I plan to read more of this series.

-SPOILERS-

This girl. This poor fucking girl. For this story not being incredibly dark, their pasts are incredibly dark, and hers in gut-wrenching. I feel like they like to play up the "she was abused" line a lot in books, but you don't feel it. Uh, this girl was abuuuused. Geez. You can't help but root for her the entire time to just be able to decide her own life.

Ok, so when he takes her to the cabin to try to protect her and she freaks out because she thinks he’s going to kill her…uh, I was stressed out. Lol. I was terrified after she’d knocked him unconscious and tied him up that he was going to go berserk on her. Sweet Jesus. Then she definitely “dubcons” him because she’s wanting to cut his dick off and make him choke on it. He doesn’t want to want her touch, but he does. Then she’s having sex with him and he’s like wtf is happening. Argh.

I was so caught off guard when the “brother” starts flirting with her. I was terrified she was going to screw it up.

I cannot wait to read G’s story. I hope it’s amazing because he was INTERESTING.

That sister sucks. Her dad sucks. I knew the whole time that he sold her or gave her away, but I really hoped he'd died for it. And when she heard it, I felt so bad for her for being so fucking naïve.

The mom is amazing.

Insta-LOVE

“I want you, Lia. I want you.” With each word, emotion built. With each word, his accent grew stronger. “Your body. Your mind. Everything about you. Mostly, I want your trust. I want you to know I will protect you. I’m not them, sweetheart. I will never be them. Where they scarred, I will worship. Where they hurt, I will show you love. Mi cielito, eres todo para mi.” You are everything to me.
