The Four Leaf

by Lee Jacquot

Two best friends grow up together, fall in love, get married, and live happily ever after. But what about the one where the girl gets friend-zoned after an awkward attempt at making a move on her best friend?

That’s my story.

More than a decade has passed, and while our platonic relationship somehow survived, I still cringe when I think about it.

Like now.

I’m supposed to be getting my hotel ready for all the guests from the St.Patrick's Day parades, but instead, I’m staring at my best friend while he repairs one of my sinks. The memory and sting of his polite rejection years ago usually helps get my head on straight, but it’s not working this time. Not when there’s been an obvious shift in the air.

And definitely not when he just grabbed onto my hips, growled in my ear, and told me to run.

After hearing about how much I enjoy the primal kink books, this one was recommended by a friend. I gotta say: I was real happy about it. Lol. It’s a fast read and worth the few hours it takes.

It started out slow and it took me a few tries to really commit to it, but once I was in far enough: holy moly. It’s a friends to lovers which isn’t a common primal thing. But read this book. It’s novella length, or close to it, and so know that going in the plot line isn’t going to give you a full story. However, it does give you a full part of the story. I have a million questions, but they would’ve only added to the story, they aren’t essential to it. The characters are cute.

-SPOILERS-

So I’ve read Bait which is pretty much a staple if you like primal kinks. With Bait, it was a fear response as much as anything else. When that fear ended, it almost seemed like the chasing would be less climactic. Of course, in my head, I was like: you could always run from someone and that’ll get your adrenaline going either way…but with the way the book was set up, it seemed like the characters were going to have to give something up.

In this one: they’re best friends and have been since childhood. They used to play tag and hide and seek together. They used to wrestle around. The author took that and made those evolve into a primal kink as adults. And let me tell you: I’m here for it! By making the characters competitive and playful, she allowed for the possibilities between them to be ENDLESS in their enjoyment of chasing, wrestling, hunting. I loved it. I love the fact that when they gave in, they didn’t lose anything at all. They just got to continue playing.

I’m a fat girl who does NOT like to run. This book was enough to make me want to start. I’m not a competitive person, but I think I would take full advantage of a situation like this.

Friends to Lovers

He takes a small step closer, forcing me to lift my chin to keep our gazes connected. “I need you to know something, Bambi. I’ve waited a long time for this. I won’t be sweet, soft, or anything remotely close to gentle. This will be years of pent-up desire, unleashed in a way that will leave you a fucking mess. Are you sure this is what you want?”
