The Witch

Celibacy is a bad look for a matchmaker.

Especially a matchmaker who works at the kind of paranormal bathhouse that would have grandmothers clutching their pearls.

A worse look is a matchmaker experiencing a crisis of confidence.

I am that matchmaker.

We need raw magic, desperately.

And now a mysterious man walks into my office, offering me the exact solution I need.

The problem is that he wants to be matched… with me.

Matching doesn’t work for me; I found that out the hard way.

The Kraken

I saw her and the creature inside me wanted.

She doesn’t want a relationship. She says that the most we can have are the three nights she promised me, but the dark part of myself isn’t going to let the woman who snared its attention go.

I found her. I hunted her. She’s mine.

This book has gotten some fun hype because of the “tentacle” action and “tentacle smut” labels. Lol. Another one chosen by my husband out of the list of 30. Also, a good reading buddy of mine suggested it and then another girlfriend bought it for me. (It is NOT KU.) After that, how could I not read it.

I think you need to go into this book with the expectation of a fantasy novella. It’s not technically novella length, but fantasy books in general require more length just to help you get into the world before getting into the specific story. This one tries to do it all rather quickly.

She is a matchmaker at her family’s “Bathhouse” which is really just a building that is spelled to absorb the magic that magical beings put off during sex. Basically, a safe place for fucking, lol. Kind of like a sex club. They give you a safe space to do it, experience new things if you choose, and whatnot. Anyway, he is in town “treasure hunting”. The artifact he’s hunting is located in the building next door. He sees her and knows. Stalks her a bit to see what she’s like and who she is. He sends someone in to figure out the business that she’s in. Then he approaches her wanting her to pair up with him for some sex in her bathhouse. He’s ancient, so the power he’d give off during their sexy times is enticing, and also he’s gorgeous. She’s in a bit of a funk because of a matching-gone-wrong incident, but together, they work through it. Bada bing, bada boom, they catch feelings (well, she does, because he already KNEW she was his mate) and they solve his hunting and her issues.

It was a fast story but because of that, there wasn’t a lot of time to get to love either character. Rushing a fantasy story is hard to do. Both characters are likable enough. The sex was fun, but there isn’t nearly enough for the type of story created. She’s very sexually comfortable (or at least before her issues) and he’s ancient, so I expected a bit more. But overall, the story was cute and it was an easy enough read. Some of the banter was fun.

-SPOILERS-

The tentacles--think more fisting than dildo action. Lol. Wow, that’s a visual all over again. But yeah, he basically likes seeing how much he can feed into her before it’s too much for her. It’s a strange thought for me, lol. He never turns into a full kraken.

I snort at that. “I can take you.”

Gideon’s eyes glitter. “Can you? Maybe I should make you do that sometime. Fuck yourself down on my cock, trying to make it fit instead of taking it slow and easy.”
