Snake

by Zahra Girard

She’s sweet, innocent, and totally off-limits.

And I’m the monster who owns her.

Adella is the club president’s daughter.

I’m a Ranger who left the Army with a dark heart.

She’s young.

I’m not.

She’s innocent.

There's blood on my hands.

She’s off-limits.

But that’s about to change.

Because one night a threat sends her into my arms.

And I can’t fight temptation any longer.

I take her into my bed.

And claim her for myself.

But a war is coming.

And our dirty secret could tear the club apart.

Will our love survive the battle?

Or will it destroy us both?

I was having a harder time finding a snake book than I imagined so I went to Goodreads and searched for just that. Lol. This one was one of the thousands that popped up. I can't actually tell you what made me pick it out of the list. I don't choose 'motorcycle club' books often, but obviously with a name like Snake, I was going to get a lot of those. I've honestly had a lot of trouble with shorter books recently, so that should've been strike 2, but really I just wanted to cross the snake square off my list.

This book surprised me, entirely. It's the 6th in the series and I'm sure I missed a lot of stuff because of that, but really, I still got a very complete story. It may be the most complete story that I've gotten from a book under 200 pages this year. I can't actually say I have any questions about the story other than how old is Snake? Lol.

Snake, our obvious leading male, was an ex-Army Ranger. He's supposedly much older and honestly he has more emotional baggage than Addie. Addie is 21? I think. She's the adopted daughter of the MC's president and while you would think being adopted would be her damage, it wasn't. She was very well-adjusted. She just wanted to stop putting her life on hold for the Club. Fair enough. Wouldn't we all? Overall, she's an incredibly stable and likable character and I was rooting for her the entire time.

Addie, being as heavily protected as she was, was a virgin, which is usually just opening a door for me to hate the MMC. Snake shocked me though and I felt like he handed it well. It also wasn't dwelled upon as much as a regular virgin trope, so I'm not sure the author was trying to accomplish that or just establish how protected she'd been.

My only squeamish issue was that it's mentioned a couple times how he watched her growing and wanted her. I hate that. I would've rather he woke up one day and realized she was a woman. I hate the concept of a grown man eyeballing a minor and just waiting for them. It softened the blow a lot that she was 21 and not 18, though.

I feel like the story itself is a pretty generic MC plot. An enemy disrupts Club life so they have to be dealt with. I liked that Addie was in the crossfire because of her dad and not her boyfriend.

In the end, I'm happy about this book. The author didn't really create any other characters that I felt like I need to read about, so I don't know that I'll continue, but I may see if she has any other kind of heroes.
