There are a few things that life doesn’t prepare you for. Like what to do when a super-hot guy catches you sneaking around in his basement. Or what to do when a mysterious package shows up with tickets to a hockey game because, apparently, he’s a professional athlete. Or how to handle it when you get to the game and realize he’s freaking famous since half of the 20,000 people in the stands are wearing his jersey.

I thought I was a well-adjusted adult, reasonably prepared for life. But one date with Jackson Wilder, a viral video, and a “I didn’t know she was your mom” incident, and I’m suddenly questioning everything I thought I knew.

But he’s fun. And great. And I think I might be falling for him. But I don’t know if he’s falling for me, too, or if he’s as much of a player off the ice as on.

I don’t know where this book came from. Honestly, I think the second one was on a TikTok and I thought that I needed to read the first one, but then I never did. So it sat there. For my bingo challenge this month, I separated my covers by color and then a friend said she’d read it with me.

This is a sports romance, flat out. It is what it is.

Alright…I did not expect to LOVE this book as much as I did. Katelyn is the MOST RELATABLE FMC I’ve ever read. She is hilarious and horny. She is mildly insecure, but also happy with herself. She has a best friend that she shares every detail with. She has a job, she’s friendly, she’s thoughtful. Gah. I LOVE HER. Jackson is fucking perfect. Flat out, I was terrified of how perfect this man was. He is kind, clever, and attentive. He has no problem apologizing when he’s messed up or even having trouble knowing when he’s messed up. He was free with his emotions and feelings and dirty words.

But from the moment they met, I FELT IT. I felt that tug in my gut and I loved every second of it. This book was slow burn and I thought it was well done. After the clusterfuck that I felt Praise caused in my head, this one was like aloe. Lol. Or really great aftercare. This book soothed all my anger and just allowed me to exist and trust.

This book was the happiest random read I’ve completed in a long, long time. I went to bed utterly at peace.

Book #1 in the Sleet series

Trope Challenge:

Slow Burn

While the arena goes wild, Jackson skates past, looks right at me, and winks. My heart stops. He’s smiling, sweaty, breathing heavily, and I think I just had an orgasm.
