Ruthless Creatures
by J.T. Geissinger

Five years ago, my fiancé disappeared. He left me with a wedding dress I’d never wear. Left me with the kind of scars that can’t be healed. The man I built my future on vanished like a ghost. All that remained were my broken heart and unanswered questions.
Until a mysterious stranger arrives in town.
Tall, dark, and dangerous, Kage is as full of secrets as he is sex appeal. Though I know he’s hiding something, I’m drawn to him like a moth to flame.
The intensity of our connection is addictive, unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. Heat crackles between us with every look, desire flares into passion, and I fall hard, unable to resist.
But when I discover how he’s tied to the darkness in my past, I learn what happens when you fly recklessly into fire:
You get burned.

This has been on my TBR, just waiting to be read, for way too long. I’d see it pop up in my groups and on TikTok and I was interested, but never quite interested enough to jump in. On my A-Z challenge, I stuck it on there, hoping I’d get more motivated. Then last week I lost my internet and it just so happens this one was already downloaded on my phone, so in I went.
Let me say: I am appalled that I have denied myself this book for so long! Holy crap on a cracker! (On the flip side, I wish I hadn’t read it yet so I could read it again and again for the first time.)
I had trouble choosing where to stick it for my trope challenge because it seems to hold several things: alpha hero, mafia, secrets and lies, neighbors, instalove, bad boy/good girl, etc. Ultimately, I think I’m going with the last one because he was a bad boy.
I loved this book. I generally don’t love instalove stories. I think that we need a bit more to fall in love. Instalust, obviously, but the ‘I’ll turn my back on everything I stand for’ kind of love takes a minute. Right?
Or not. Lol.
Kage was -in a word- delicious. Holy shit. He was intense, honest, caring, passionate, protective, observant, smart…just whew. I loved this man. And any man that will take anything himself that he wants to do to you is a dream. Nat started out being frustrating. How long can one really pity themselves and swear that it’s not pity? She pulls out of it though and goes through some pretty normal issues. Is loving someone enough to overcome all the other things you have to give up? She’s also kind, strong, and intelligent.
There’s nothing utterly unique about this storyline. (I don’t even know if that’s possible in a mafia story anymore), but every page hooked me. I didn’t put it down from the opening page until I finished it. When it was over, I immediately downloaded the next and devoured it as well.
Do you have a praise kink?
Yeah, yeah, I do too. READ THIS BOOK.
-SPOILERS-
Have you ever been so mad that you wanted to spank your Russian gangster? Uh...again, me too. Nat is over here living fantasies. If I have to take a spanking afterward - worth it. I don’t even have a thing for spanking, but I wanted to live this story.
I felt like the meeting with David was a bit anticlimactic, and that was a bummer. However, based on the person that they made him to be, I can’t say that it wasn’t plausible or probable.

Still behind me, he moves closer and puts his mouth near my ear. In a voice like velvet, he says, “I want to taste every inch of you. I want to hear you scream my name. I want to make you come so hard, you forget your own...Natalie, that I want to fuck your sweet cunt and your perfect ass and your luscious mouth and anything else you’ll let me fuck, because you are the single most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life.”
