Control the Burn
by A.K. Evans
Kendall Moore has given up hope.
As a labor and delivery nurse, she covets the joy and love she sees every day in expectant couples. When she met the owner of the local race shop, Kendall finally felt that spark. She thought he did, too.
But he never called.
Logan Townsend is a man whose skills are unparalleled. With so many people vying for the racing guru’s attention, Logan doesn’t have much free time to himself. But he knows he needs to find some. Because he can’t stop thinking about the woman who gave him the best night of his life.
Just as Kendall decides to move on, Logan reappears.
Try as she might to resist the temptation, Kendall fails. Because with a man like Logan, it’s hard to control the burn.

This book hit 3 different challenges for me and I found it on a TikTok.
I’m saying it now: TikTok let me DOWN.
Have you ever read a story and it felt like you were just READING words? Because that’s how this story felt.
Kendall and Logan meet at a bar where he’s celebrating his birthday. They end back at his place. He doesn’t call for a month and she tries to move on. He comes back into the picture with a very mediocre (in my opinion) answer for not calling. She dumps the new guy and jumps back on team Logan. And then this supposedly smart woman LOSES HER MIND. She is the most emotionally volatile, “hear what I want to hear,” juvenile person ever. And Logan is just trying to make it work. God, this book sucked.
Also, the phrase “control the burn” was used in here 13 times. 13 fucking times was this dumb-ass phrase used. So stupid.
-SPOILERS-
So, he goes on a business trip after their night together and he doesn’t take her number with him, and he’s gone for a month. That’s his reason for not calling. While it’s reeeeeeasonable, I suppose, it’s also not because they know mutual people and he could’ve gotten her number. It’s not a difficult concept.
Anyway, he catches her on her date with the new guy, right? Then they have a date and he tells her that he is willing to put in the work to make her his, but he wants to know how much of her this other guy has, what he’s up against. AND SHE FLIPS OUT SAYING THAT HE CALLED HER A WHORE. Like, whoa, nelly. That was not even kind of what he says.
He also tells her that he wants to spend some time with her on Saturday. She assumes he means ALL of Saturday. When he tells her that isn’t what he meant because he has to work, she loses it again. He tries to talk to her about it, and she just gets cruel. She tells him that they shouldn’t be this volatile together already. That it should be rainbows and butterflies. ARE YOU FUCKING TWELVE? She is the most immature character I’ve ever read.
Then they don’t see each other for a week because he’s working and she has like 74 meltdowns. Fucking suck it up! You are an adult!
